When we are struggling with our obedience to God, one of the first things we do is that we feel miserable about who we are, compared to the wonderful Savior we know. When you really see how much He loves us, it is abhorrent to think of how short we have fallen. Instead of coming to Him as we are, failures of righteousness, we hide behind trees in hopes we can avoid His presence… because His presence is “piercing to…

FI-PrayingForYou

I have some mixed emotions after realizing last night there was all this news discussion based on a newspaper in NY that quoted Republicans about their thoughts and prayers. I won’t even quote the headline because of its intent. I’m not going to focus on the content of the story because we are not going to have a political debate here. This has sparked a debate in my head for which you have the pleasure, or regret, of reading. ha…

No-Know

Recent events in the US has many people on the edge of their seats. I have never seen emotions so high as they have been this year. Particularly, racism and the recent ruling by the US Supreme Court on same sex marriages. I know the media feeds a lot of this emotional stuff to us because it creates advertising revenue by more visits to their articles. Meanwhile, the TPP has been going on under the radar and yes you should be…

Would a loving God burn people forever? This is a question that must be answered. The idea of a God that burns people forever has turned away millions from Him and creates a misrepresentation of His character. God is a God of Love and when something doesn’t fit that character attribute, we must look deeper into our own interpretations and reconcile them. Check out the video above for some insight into this subject. Also, I have provided some Bible text…

personality

A recent fad is to go to some of these websites to take personality tests. You have seen them: What kind of ___ are you? People succumb to the Confirmation Bias, which is “the tendency to remember or notice information that fits one’s expectations while forgetting discrepancies.” -Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to Mind and Behavior(1). We don’t need to find out who we are by answering these questions on some websites. We also don’t need to be limited by astrology signs and…

Sabbatical

To say that I am a busy man at church as a layman would be an understatement. I have a passion for doing things right and giving 100%. If someone needed my help with something and I agreed to help, I am all in. That’s how I view my Christianity. When I decided to follow Jesus I knew that I would give Him my all. I asked my wife (then girlfriend) as I started to change internally from spending time with God:…

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;  and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Our society is very selfish, for the most part. We want everything, but cannot have it. We want it…

drought

Several years ago the Southeast portion of the United States was in a drought situation. Lakes had deteriorated and rivers were very low. For at least two years the southeast was in a shortfall of rain. I remember taking our youth up to Lake Jocassee and walking down the lakeside where the water was supposed to be. The lake had dropped in depth about 15 feet so there was about 20 yards of extra embankment beside the lake. It wasn’t…
