There are times when I observe people and the things that they do want to make me shout “Don’t you know that it is not good for you!” And there have been many times that I have needed someone to shout this to me.
My wife told me that when I see things I tend to see mainly black and white. Either it is wrong or it isn’t. For the most part I believe that is true, but there are some areas in which things may be blurred. When in doubt of an action I must do, I err on the side of caution.
A little while back we had decided to limit the amount of content that is questionable on TV and movies displayed in our home. I had been tired of watching a movie and then seeing some blood bath murdering, fornication, or any other sin appear before our eyes and pictured as OK in the movie. I have friends that just don’t see this as wrong. They think that they have the ability to throw aside this stuff and not take it in. However, I believe they are just fooling themselves. Our minds are like hard drives – you think you can delete something and it is gone, but many people know that the only way to get rid of the data is to destroy it completely.
There are many studies published online that show that behavior can change by what we take in. We can fill ourselves with good or bad and the outcome can be the same.
The Bible helps us see that when we take in Jesus, we become transformed. 2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
It was because of those sins that are being glorified on the screen that Jesus died, so why are we basking in them? I have had to ask myself this question many times. Jesus cannot possibly live in our hearts and minds and help us make right decisions if we are filling up our eyes with sin. Sin can be covered by a good plot or some action, but sin is still sin. <–There is a black and white one from me.
The fallen one’s intention is to blind us to any truth and to corrupt our thinking process. He utilizes our eyes to gain access to our hearts. He places before us evil in all shapes and sizes, from the bombardment of materialistic things to the flood of pornography online to subtle sins that are not so obvious.
I appeal to us all to change our ways on this issue. This issue is one of many that is wearing down the morality of God’s people.
Luke 11:34 “The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.”

Good one Kev. “When in doubt of an action I must do, I err on the side of caution.” I think to often we, including I. Allow the evil one to cloud our judgement. We allow worldly thing to lower our standards.

Thanks Ryan. This is a hard one to stick too. But most days I have the TV turned off. I need more of His Word and His love to surround me so that I can be transformed into some sort of light for Him.

Good stuff. I agree with this. I have found myself turned off by some things I used to enjoy watching. I think we can become desensitized to stuff we see on TV. My “favorite” is when a character laments that he hasn’t had sex for a couple of weeks and somehow this is one of the worst things imaginable. I watch less and less TV these days.

I don’t know why I am surprised by the things I hear on TV. And then when I do hear or see things that disappoint me, I am reminded again why I don’t like to TV. I really need to end this cycle. lol

Yeah I know where you are coming from Watson. I myself LOVE to watch crime reality shows where they show the cases and investigation of past crimes. I like to see the lives of the criminals and the whole psychology behind it, but recently my dad has told me I need to stop watching so much of them… His argument is that those shows show sin and the bad part of humanity, things that God didn’t even want us to know about! I have to say he is right…. now he has limited me to watch only one episode of a crime show per day, and I myself have been watching a new pleasant TV series based on a book (though I can’t say all the complex romance is very uplifting xD) .

The reality is that the bad part of humanity is what we are trying to witness to. We just don’t need to take it in as entertainment… a feast for our eyes. Your dad has some great wisdom.
